The winter months are terrible for women with natural hair because the cold air just take away all of the moisture you put in your hair throughout the day, if you don't moisturize your hair and you don't use any protective styling in those months your hair will break. My advice to any women with natural hair for those cold weather months:

    1. deep conditioning your hair weekly or bi-weekly.
    2. use a sulfate free shampoo to retain the moisture in your hair.
    3. Pre-poo before you shampoo your hair; as shown in the image this is how you can make your own pre-poo at home with the products you already have or you can just buy one.
    4. after deep conditioning use a leave in conditioner in your hair and loc it in with oil then twist your hair or just put it in any protective style you want. I suggest braiding it.
    5. spray your hair daily with a leave in conditioner.
    6. massage your scalp with oil 3 nights a week or as needed; you can do it more than 3 days if your hair is really dry.
    7. wear a silk scarf when you go to bed at night because cotton will suck out all of the moisture you worked so hard to put in your hair.
    8. never detangle your hair daily or put fingers in your hair too much or at all unless you are perfecting a curl.

Natural hair for black women is very fragile, although it looks strong but it can break off easily. You have to use the right tools to detangle and treat it with great care. Know that it is weakest when it's wet and more dangerous to detangle your hair while it's dry; always detangle damp hair from tip to roots to avoid breakage. Love your hair and always keep it moisturized.
