Looking at this picture I have a lot of memories rushing back to my brain! This picture was taken back in 2017 and I had first went natural for real that time because I tried it once a couple months prior and I didn’t like the way my hair looked. But in this picture I was really trying to like my hair even though I didn’t know quite how to style it but I was trying my best. My mom called me to tell me to stop leaving my hair like this she said I looked horrible and to put a texturizer in my hair! She hated it at first, those words made me cry and for a long time I held that grudge against her when it came to my hair but finally we had a chance to have a heart to heart conversation and I forgave her. After a while she did fall in love with my hair when I finally learned what to do with it.

As African descants Why do we teach our kids to hate their Afrocentric features ?

I find beauty in my Afro, each hair strands tells a story and I am proud to wear my hair each and every day, the same way I was proud to wear it in this picture even though I didn’t know what to do yet.

Why is the Eurocentric features are what we want to embrace?

I don’t have to hide my big nose or my big lips ( actually I don’t have a big nose or big lips lol but wait I am making a point) we don’t have to feel less than for looking different. I find black women to be the most beautiful creatures ever created. Each of us are unique, with different skin tones and physical attributes. WE are beautiful inside and out.
